After failing to step up in place of the injured Aymeric Laporte this season, John Stones may be one of many players to be shown the exit door at Manchester City this summer as they look to rebuild. After suffering defensive woe after defensive woe this season, Pep Guardiola will know he needs to strengthen and remained uncertain when questioned about Stones’ future.
Pep Guardiola Uncertain When Asked About John Stones Future
Guardiola Wants Best for Defender
The Spaniard stated in a recent interview with Sky Sports when asked about the Englishman: “What I want is the best for him and at the end of the season, we are going to speak about what is going to happen because, sometimes, my wish is not the wish of the players or wish for the situation of the club.
“I am honest with them and the moment I will feel- not with John but any player- if we have to change, we are going to tell them.”
Where Next for John Stones?
With his career at City left doubtful, John Stones will be actively seeking a new club and a new opportunity to realise his once great potential. The Englishman won’t come cheap, however, as City look to make back the original investment of £47.5 million.
Wherever he does end up, Stones will be desperate to kick on to complete the revival of his career. It has been mistake after mistake during his time at Manchester City, making him a liability under Guardiola and co. And, with injury concerns combining with poor form, the transfer, despite being a costly one, may be a wasteful and risky one for many clubs.
For the sake of his England place, too, Stones needs to find his form and fitness as soon as possible whether that be for Manchester City or indeed another club this summer.
