Championship leaders Leeds United have turned winger Helder Costa’s deal permanent on a four-year contract.
Helder Costa: Leeds United Winger Turns Deal Permanent
Four-Year Deal
Costa’s career began at Benfica before he spent time on-loan at Deportivo La Coruna and AS Monaco.
The winger then joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2016, initially on a loan deal.
After impressing at Molineux, including winning Player of the Season, the Portuguese forward’s deal was turned permanent for a then club-record transfer fee.
Costa continued to play an instrumental role with Wolves as they were promoted from the Championship.
He earned his first international cap for Portugal towards the end of that season.
After making brief appearances for Wolves in the top flight, Costa joined Leeds United at the start of the 2019-20 season.
The deal was with a view to a permanent deal, an option the Whites have opted to exercise.
Helder Costa has made 43 appearances for the Championship leaders in all competitions – he has added four goals as Leeds go in search of promotion to the Premier League.
The 26-year-old’s permanent deal is expected to cost the Whites around £15 million. That fee will, however, be paid in instalments throughout the length of his contract.
Costa did not make his full Championship debut for Leeds until September 28. Since then he started all but three fixtures in the league campaign.
He was absent for the 3-1 victory at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
The winger is expected to return to the starting eleven on Thursday when Leeds United take on Stoke City.
What the Fans Have Said
The majority of Whites fans appear to in support of the permanent deal; however, some seem to be surprised at the valuation of Costa.
Great news, I’m glad he’s staying. But wow I can’t help thinking wolves are incredible happy with the price agreed.

The cosmic balance is £15m Costa £7m Harrison so £22m for those 2 doesn’t seem bad.

I don’t think he’s worth the money but look how much better Harrison has been in his 2nd season and I bet costa will be the same, happy we have signed him 🙌🏻

Think a bit like Harrison, a second season under Bielsa will improve him. Got potential to be a good player, and will improve.
