REPORT: Manchester United Youngster James Garner Wanted by Championship Trio

Championship Loan Likely

Garner has adopted a greater role within the squad at United since returning to train with them after football’s suspension.

The 19-year-old midfielder has impressed the top dogs at United while featuring for the Under-23s this season.

With an array of finishing styles and an apparent quality in midfield, the teenager is set to head on-loan according to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic.

In his last Under-23s outing before lockdown, Garner netted an exquisite brace at Stoke City.

And, since football’s return, boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has integrated him into the first-team.

He has, however, struggled to break into the first-team and, therefore, a loan spell is likely according to Whitwell.

Under-23 manager Neil Wood believes a loan spell away from Old Trafford would be beneficial to Garner’s development.

He said: “Jimmy has been around first-team training throughout the season. He has trained with them then come back with us.

“The opportunity is there for him. That said, there is a lot of experience in the manager and coaching staff and if they feel like a loan would suit him, I definitely think it would be important to get him the right club.

“I think it would be a good test for him to go out play regularly; one or two games a week if he drops down to the Championship.”

Garner was close to making a loan move to Blackpool in January, but that transfer fell through.

The midfielder is, however, attracting interest from Swansea City, Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers.

Garner made his United debut away to Partizan Belgrade in October, before featuring against Norwich City in the Premier League days later.
