Gareth Bale comparisons are not going to help Ryan Sessegnon to succeed at Tottenham Hotspur. That is the view of former Spurs midfielder, David Bentley who was talking with 888sport.
Gareth Bale Comparisons Not Helpful to Young Spurs Player
Sessegnon Compared to Ashley Cole and Gareth Bale
Jose Mourinho has compared Ryan Sessegnon to Ashley Cole whom he managed at Chelsea, but comparing the England Under – 21 player with Gareth Bale is an entirely different prospect. That is not to say there aren’t similarities – Bale struggled with minor injuries when he joined Spurs and it took him time to really make his mark. Ryan Sessegnon has struggled in the same way since his £25 million pound move across London from Fulham.
Bentley said:
“He was a good player at Fulham but he shouldn’t have been compared to Bale. That’s not fair.
“Bale could spray a fifty-yard pass onto a sixpence. He had an all-round game that he was showing glimpses of even at that age.
“With Sessegnon, you don’t know. If he plays there is a possibility he will come good but I’m not so sure.”
It is tough to make comparisons when Sessegnon just hasn’t had the game time at Spurs. Comparisons also place unnecessary, additional pressure onto players.
Let Him Go on Loan or Leave Him Alone
Pictures of Ryan Sessegnon in training show that he has been building up his physique. Game time though is what every single player needs. Harry Kane went out on loan a number of times before finally breaking through at Spurs. Without those spells, maybe we wouldn’t see the potent striker the club now has. Maybe a loan spell could work for Sessegnon.
If a loan move isn’t in the thinking of the Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho, he needs to give the player minutes and also deflect any such comparison to players such as Gareth Bale.
If Ryan Sessegnon is to succeed at Spurs he must do so by working hard and simply by being Ryan Sessegnon. Comparisons to multi trophy winning players can wait. If he achieves those kinds of accolades, then the comparisons can be made. Until then, let the youngster make his own name as a player for Tottenham Hotspur.
