Chelsea‘s Christian Pulisic has already scored two goals in two games since the Premier League restart. However, that isn’t enough for the American as he wants to lift a trophy in his first season with the Blues. And in particular, he has his eyes set on the FA Cup.
Christian Pulisic Eyes Chelsea Silverware After Hot Restart
Brilliant Restart
Pulisic scored a wonderful opening goal against Manchester City Thursday. Both Benjamin Mendy and Ilkay Gundogan committed a mistake that left “Captain American” free to shoot past Ederson. And that goal followed a superb super sub performance against Aston Villa the previous weekend, in which he also scored the opener for the Blues.
“We looked at this game against a big opponent and we wanted to win it. We were at home, obviously in slightly different circumstances, but we’re happy that we came out and got a really good result,” he told Chelsea’s website about the Man City victory.
“We have to capitalise on opportunities like that. I had another one in the second half as well, but I’m just happy to help the team out by scoring. We needed it and we’re just happy to get the three points,” he added.
“We went into the game with a really confident mindset to go out and win. Obviously, we want to finish the season strongly but we feel we’re capable of a lot more as well.
“We want to go as far as we can in the FA Cup and we want to continue finishing strong so we can be secure in a Champions League spot. We have a lot to play for.”
If Chelsea are to get past Leicester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals this weekend and eventually win the competition, Pulisic will likely have a hand in it.
American Star Shining in England
Since the restart, Pulisic has shone brightly for Chelsea. In fact, he has arguably been their best player. According to WhoScored, Pulisic was Chelsea’s fourth-best player against Villa, and that was coming off the bench. Against City, he earned Man of the Match honours.
If Chelsea want to win the FA Cup, they’ll need Pulisic crashing the box with second runs and scoring goals as he has done since the restart. If Pulisic, and the Blues, want silverware in manager Frank Lampard’s first season, they’ll need the American in the XI.
After the Villa game, Lampard called Pulisic “hungry.” He has only lifted the German Cup with Borussia Dortmund in 2017. And he hasn’t lifted any for the USMNT.
The FA Cup may not carry the same prestige in America as it does in the UK. Still, Pulisic wants to lift a trophy. Pulisic is without a doubt “hungry” for a trophy with Chelsea.
This weekend, he can lead the Blues to just one win away from his first final in England.
