Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi announced via Twitter on Saturday that the rape allegations levied against him have been dropped. The police will not take any further against the 19-year-old.
Callum Hudson-Odoi Alleged Rape Charges Dropped
His Statement
“I have stayed silent and assisted the police fully throughout their enquiries, as I knew the day would soon come when my name would be cleared. Following a full and thorough investigation, the police have no confirmed they will take no further action,” he wrote.
“I would like to use this platform to thank everyone who has stood by my side and supported me during this difficult period,” he continued.
He finished by saying: “I will try and use my platform as a Chelsea player to be the best role model that I can be.”
Hudson-Odoi was arrested on May 17th on suspicion of rape by women who went to his house in London after the two met online. He later posted bail and trained with Chelsea with the investigation ongoing.
Tough Year
It’s been a tough 2020 so far and a rough calendar year for Hudson-Odoi. He was the first Premier League player to test positive for Coronavirus back in March. Thankfully, he recovered from it quickly.
Then he had these allegations arise.
And, more recently, Chelsea’s signing of Timo Werner and pursuit of Kai Havertz have put Hudson-Odoi’s role at Chelsea in doubt.
All this comes off the back of a nasty Achilles rupture he suffered in April 2019.
But if he comes through all of this unscathed, and all signs point to him doing so, then he’ll have shown an immense amount of mental will power and determination.
Chelsea Restart
The Blues restart their Premier League season next weekend when they travel to Aston Villa. According to Simon Johnson of The Athletic, Hudson-Odoi missed both the inter-squad game at Stamford Bridge and friendly against Reading because of a minor knock. Johnson also reported that Hudson-Odoi may also not recover in time for the match at Villa Park.
