Schalke and Wales winger Rabbi Matondo has commented about rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.
Manchester United Target Rabbi Matondo Comments on Old Trafford Speculation
Welsh Winger Wanted By Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
The 19-year-old is reportedly a target for Manchester United as an alternative target to Jadon Sancho.
Matondo has a release clause in his contract which would allow him to move to the Red Devils for €60million this summer.
But United face competition from their cross-city rivals, with Manchester City holding a buyback option for €46.5m.
Solskjaer’s side believe they could sign Matondo for a fee lower than his release clause – although Borussia Dortmund‘s Sancho remains the top target.
Matondo joined Schalke last year after coming through City’s youth ranks and started in their recent 3-0 defeat by Augsburg.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, the winger said he is fully committed to Schalke.
He said: “Obviously there are people talking, but I am not really thinking about it.
“I am concentrating on Schalke. I still have to achieve my goals for Schalke. I am just concentrating on that and we just have to see how things go, but for now I am just focused on Schalke.”
Matondo only switched to Germany last January.
But his impressive performances this season have led to interest from English sides ahead of the summer window – notably from United.
Quizzed on whether his ambition was to play in the Premier League, Matondo refused to rule out a move.
“I haven’t really thought about it like that,” he said. “I just want to do well at Schalke and give back what they have invested into me.
“I just want to give my all and then whatever happens in the future happens. Never say never.”
