REPORT: Luka Jovic can Help AC Milan

Italy’s Corriere dello Sport reported Monday that talks between AC Milan and agent Fali Ramadani for Luka Jovic have intensified. It’s important to note that Ramadani played a major role in Ante Rebic‘s arrival in Milan last summer from Jovic’s former club, Eintracht Frankfurt. Milan and Real Madrid have also maintained a strong relationship over the last several years.

What Jovic brings

It’s no secret that the Serbian international has struggled in his first year in Madrid. This doesn’t classify him as a failure, however, as it definitely takes more than one season for young players to adjust to football’s elite tiers.

There’s a reason Los Blancos purchased him last summer, however. Jovic’s 2018/19 season with Eintracht Frankfurt was brilliant. The striker scored 17 goals and had six assists in 32 Bundesliga matches, and scored ten goals with one assist in 14 Europa League matches. The talent and potential is clearly there.

Jovic has world-class pace, is technically sound, and a ruthless finisher – all the traits of a top striker. At Madrid, he’s benched behind Karim Benzema and has also struggled mightily with injuries – most recently a broken foot. According to Mundo Deportivo, Madrid would prefer to recoup the €50 million they bought Jovic for, but in this case, a loan to Milan may be in their best interest.

Milan are preparing for a youth revolution. It’s clear they want to use and develop and young talent available. A player of Jovic’s ability would instantly become a starter, and he could very well regain his form and confidence he had in Germany. With Madrid in a win-now situation, as they often are, it would be best to let a club like Milan further develop Jovic. It would be a win-win situation, as Milan also lacks consistent goal scoring that would allow them to finally qualify for Champions League again.

How Jovic Would fit at Milan

As previously stated, Milan need a goal scorer. The list of strikers they’ve cycled through the past decade is endless. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is now in the fold, but he’s ageing and his future is still up in the air. Even if the Swede stays with the club, he is no longer the number one option game-in and game-out, but could also serve as a fantastic mentor for Jovic.

What’s most tantalizing for Milan would be reuniting Jovic with Rebic. While at Eintracht Frankfurt, the two wreaked havoc on opposing defences. Ramadani is adamant on helping Milan retain Rebic’s services. The Croatian winger broke out for the club in 2020, so it would make sense for Milan to want him back as well.

The pair still certainly have great chemistry. If reunited, they should be a fearsome duo in Italy. Milan would once again have a feared attack and Jovic could return to Madrid with his old confidence.

Unless Madrid are able to find a permanent suitor, this would be their best option. The same goes for Milan. Expect relations between the two clubs to remain strong and for this idea to be heavily considered.
