REPORT: Tottenham Target Raul Jimenez and Issa Diop in Summer Overhaul

Tottenham Raul Jimenez

It’s fair to say that the current Tottenham Hotspur squad are well overdue an overhaul. Finally, this summer, it looks as though a rebuild will begin at Tottenham starting with the transfers of Raul Jimenez and Issa Diop. According to Football365, Spurs are set to target the Wolves forward and West Ham centre-back with a £96.9 million budget at their disposal.

Time to Move to the Next Step

The transfer of Jimenez, in particular, makes sense for Spurs after Harry Kane hinted at an exit a couple of weeks ago. The Mexican would breathe new life into the Spurs attack with his ability on and off the ball clear, as well as his clinical nature in front of goal. He has more than proved that he is ready for a move to the very top, with 39 goals and 18 assists in 88 appearances at Wolves. The former Benfica man seems the ideal candidate to either partner Kane or even replace him at Spurs in the summer.

Jimenez Has a Big Decision to Make

Despite the transfer being perfect for Spurs, Raul Jimenez may feel slightly different when it comes to a move to North London. The Mexican is settled at Wolves, playing a key role in both the Europa League and Premier League this season. He may feel as though he has a better chance to realise his dreams under Nuno Espirito Santo at Wolves than Mourinho at Spurs.

The fact is, the attraction of a move to Spurs has been damaged after a difficult six months that could cost them their place in next seasons Champions League, and therefore the transfers of players such as Jimenez.

Issa Diop: A Much Needed Injection of Youth in the Spurs Defence

The Spurs defence has been under more scrutiny than ever over the last six months, with the likes of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld past their peak and in their 30s. Spurs, however, could solve their defensive issues with a much-needed injection of youth in the summer with the transfer of West Ham’s Issa Diop. The Frenchman clearly has the potential to be a world-class centre back, but a move to a top club and the guidance of a top manager is needed to realise it.

The current West Ham man could reach new levels at Spurs under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, a man famous for his defensive know-how when it comes to tactics- making a move perfect for Diop who will want to reach his ever-growing potential.

West Ham, however, will likely refuse to sell their young defender to rivals, Spurs, for anything less than £50 million in the summer, making for a tough deal to negotiate for Daniel Levy.
