Where Next for Lucas Paquetá?

Lucas Paquetá

Lucas Paquetá clearly has the talent to succeed. He has fallen out of favour at AC Milan, however, and is not a regular starter. With the Rossoneri not likely to qualify for Champions League yet again, there will be a need to sell during the next transfer window. If Paquetá is not in the future plans, as it currently seems, he has value and other teams will surely take him on.

Where Next for Lucas Paquetá?

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG have a history with being interested in Milan player after player. The situation with the young Brazilian is likely no different. Leonardo Araújo, formerly of Milan, took over the operation to bring Paquetá to the San Siro. Now serving once again as Sporting Director of PSG, Araújo is surely monitoring his former ideas.

The French side have a solid midfield, but nothing to drool over. Everything runs through Marco Verratti, so if PSG truly wants to elevate to the highest tiers of European football, they should welcome the idea of more creativity there. Furthermore, the futures of attacking stars like Neymar and Edinson Cavani look to be up in the air. Paquetá prefers a more traditional attacking midfield role and can fill that void.

Juventus

Rumours swirled this past January about a potential Paquetá and Federico Bernardeschi swap between Milan and Juventus. This move, if it were to happen in the future, would not come as a surprise.

Like PSG, Juventus’ midfield is solid but not yet elite. Miralem Pjanić runs the show. Juventus has attacking talent comparable to the best, and this will only be aided by more midfield creators. Bernardeschi, simply put, has talent but will not replace Paulo Dybala or Cristiano Ronaldo. He is expendable.

Milan are always in the market for attacking talent, and with departures likely this summer, they’ll likely take on more Italian talent as well.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich habitually take on young talent. This is for good reason, as more times than not they make good out of it. Germany might be the ideal place for Paquetá to blossom into the potential he has shown from time to time.

Philippe Coutinho will likely not be returning to Bayern after this season. With this being the case, they should be on the prowl for another midfielder. There’s plenty of talent in Bayern’s squad at the position, but Die Roten are known to appreciate depth. Any financial demands, for transfer fees and wages, will also not be an issue for Bayern.
