REPORT: Manchester United Confident of Signing £135m Saul Niguez

Saul Niguez

According to Adam Shergold of the Daily Mail, Manchester United are confident of signing Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez for a club-record £135-million. Furthermore, this signing would be the replacement of Paul Pogba if he were to leave the Red Devils.

Manchester United Identify Saul as Ideal Replacement

Midfielder Impresses Red Devils Scouts

United sent their scouts to watch Atletico Madrid face Liverpool in the Champions League. Furthermore, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer received glistening reports from the scouts after watching Saul. He was instrumental in the defeat of the impending Premier League champions.

However, with these crucial performances for Atletico, there comes a price if Liverpool’s biggest rivals want to bring those performances to Old Trafford.

The Massive Release Clause to Pay for a Big Name Player

Saul Niguez has a buy-out clause in his nine-year Atletico contract of £135m and United are prepared to match that, smashing the club record £89m they spent to bring Pogba back from Juventus in 2016.

Now that Pogba could be sold back to Juventus for a slashed price, Saul is looking like the replacement that United needs. He’s a world-class option in the center of the park. Furthermore, he has the profile of a younger playmaker with a very high ceiling.

Saul has scored four goals this season for Atletico Madrid. This includes the only goal in the round-of-16 first-leg tie against Liverpool that eventually led to a 4-2 aggregate win.

He signed a nine-year contract back in 2017 which runs until 2026. But as many know, a big contract doesn’t always ward off suitors. Plus, with six years left on his deal, United still look to be pushing for his signature.

Should Saul Niguez Move to Manchester United?

Niguez would be able to fill the void that Pogba could leave.

He would slot in the center of United’s midfield alongside Portuguese star Bruno Fernandes, who has made a fine start to life at Old Trafford after signing from Sporting Lisbon in January.

It definitely would be worth the price for Manchester United.
