Just like everyone else in these trying times, the workers who make Arsenal FC the club that it is are feeling the pinch amid the coronavirus pandemic. As there is no football, these people cannot go to work. All are real-world working class people who are really feeling the pinch.
However, the club is now committed to paying their casual workers through at least the end of next month.
Arsenal Paying Casual Workers Despite Pandemic
Players Remain In Quarantine
Due to Mikel Arteta‘s contraction of the coronavirus, all playing staff was to stay at home until at least Tuesday 24 March. However, as part of the club announcement on Monday, the playing staff is now to remain at home.
According to the club, “we are clear that it would be inappropriate and irresponsible to ask players to come back at this time.”
The ban will affect all players; the first-team men, first-team women and academy players will all observe the self-isolation order.
Casual Workers To Be Paid
In addition to observing government and health professionals’ guidance to self-isolate the club made one further announcement. That is, they are paying casual workers until the end of April.
Both matchday and non-matchday casual workers will receive their usual pay as if the season were still going. Arsenal will re-visit this policy on or before 30 April. This is in order to re-asses the situation and decide on their next course of action.
In a time where many players, including Johan Djourou and Alex Song, are being asked to take pay cuts and clubs seem in serious financial peril, this comes as welcome news to fans.
It shows not only a commitment to the people who work so hard to make Arsenal the club it is, it also proves the financial well-being of the club.
