Coronavirus Fears Not Impacting West Ham United’s Game Against Wolverhampton Wanderers

Coronavirus

Arsenal’s game against Manchester City was postponed due to worries about the coronavirus, prompting concerns about other games. However, West Ham United’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers is set to go ahead this weekend.

Coronavirus Outbreak Will Not Affect West Ham Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

No Disruption to West Ham Schedule

The Hammers have confirmed that at present, their Premier League fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers will go ahead as normal. However, the situation will continue to be monitored.

There are worries about this fixture as West Ham played Arsenal last week. The Arsenal players have had to self-isolate after coming into contact with Olympiakos’ owner, who tested positive for Covid-19. This means that West Ham’s players will have come into contact with people who have been close to the disease.

Wolves travel to Greece on Thursday to play Olympiakos in the Europa League, in a game which will take place behind closed doors. Wolves asked for the game to be postponed, though UEFA refused their request.

What Have West Ham Said?

According to a statement released by the club, West Ham will “continue to closely monitor the situation regarding the coronavirus outbreak.”

The club also reassured fans that “all necessary measures are being taken” and that the club’s medical are staff “constantly managing the club’s position,” prioritising the safety and welfare of players, staff and supporters.

They confirmed that their Premier League fixture against Wolves is set to go ahead. However, they also added that supporters will be updated should the situation change.

Will Coronavirus Impact the Rest of the League?

At present, there is no reason to believe that further Premier League games will be cancelled or postponed due to the virus. While other countries such as Italy have suspended their leagues, the UK’s coronavirus situation is not at the same level.

Games may be suspended or postponed in the near future, though there has been no official announcement from the Premier League as of yet.
