Lee Grant Signs One-Year Contract Extension at Manchester United

Manchester United’s third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant has signed a one-year contract extension at Old Trafford. The 37-year-old has played just twice for United since joining from Stoke in 2018. Despite this, the extension to his deal means he will remain at United until the end of next season.

Limited Game Time

Grant will not be remembered for his appearances for United. He has just one start to his name, the 1-0 defeat to Astana in the Europa League this season. Despite this, the coaching staff at United feel as though he has contributed enough to warrant a new deal.

Instead of game time, Grant has been working towards his coaching badges and working with United’s younger players. Speaking to Manchester United’s club website, Grant said: “I’m still working hard at the coaching and putting the final touches to my ‘A’ licence now. It’s a good thing being at such a fantastic club that is giving me an opportunity to do that as well, by working with some of the younger players.”

Grant is out with an arm injury, and despite his scarce game time, he is desperate to get back to training. “I’ve fallen foul of a little bit of bad luck and a small injury ended up being worse than I thought. It’s left me with a couple of months for a period of rehab, which is frustrating, but it has to be done,” he added.

Grant has made over 300 appearances in his career, mostly in the Championship. He has turned out for Derby, Burnley, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke. The Englishman raised eyebrows when he joined United in 2018, but it seems as though his experience has been invaluable.

He may not play many matches, but Grant is loving his time at Old Trafford. The fairytale end to his career will continue for at least one more year.
