Erika Lamela’s injuries simply will not go away. The Argentinian, who joined Tottenham Hotspur from Roma in 2013, has suffered hip problems which kept him out for 13 months and even made him think his career was over.
Erik Lamela Injuries
Playing Through the Pain
The latest injury for Lamela in his Spurs career is a groin injury. This meant that he was unable to train with the squad ahead of last weekend’s defeat to Chelsea. Despite that, it was Lamela that nearly changed the course of the game, causing Antonio Rudiger to put through his own goal.
The winger is tenacious and his ability to collect yellow cards has become somewhat legendary amongst the fans. Lamela was due to feature against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League but ahead of the match told boss Jose Mourinho that he simply wasn’t fit enough to start or to be on the bench: “He [Parrott] was on the bench because Lamela told me before the game he was not even ready to go on the bench,” the manager said.
How to Solve a Problem Like Erik Lamela
Fans either love or loathe Erik Lamela. The player commands a large wage and some find his constant injuries frustrating. He wants to play and when he does he often delivers. Despite his injuries, he has assisted a goal every couple of games.
He has undoubted skill and is one of very few players at the club right now that changes things for the better when he is introduced.
With Norwich City next up in the FA Cup followed by a trip to Burnley in the Premier League, Jose Mourinho will be hoping that Erik Lamela can play some part in both games even if he is unable to train with the squad prior to both. Either way, his injuries are a major blow to Spurs.
