Loris Karius is set to return to Liverpool in the summer, according to James Pearce of The Athletic. The German is currently on loan at Besiktas, though the Turkish club have reportedly decided not to activate their option to buy.
Loris Karius to Return to Liverpool
Besiktas Opt Not to Activate Loris Karius’ Option to Buy
Loris Karius has spent the last two seasons on loan at Besiktas. He left Liverpool following his mistakes in the Champions League final in 2018. The Reds then signed Alisson from Roma after Karius’ Kiev horror show and have not looked back.
Karius has performed to a good level for the Turkish club, despite dropping a few howlers. His personal circumstances at the club haven’t been great, with his former manager publicly calling him out for the team’s lack of form. Karius also had issues with the club refusing to pay his wages.
What Next For Loris Karius?
It seems clear that the German will not be returning to Liverpool permanently. The Reds have Alisson between the sticks and he is arguably the world’s best. Adrian has also performed consistently well as back-up, so there is little hope of Karius breaking back into Klopp’s squad.
Liverpool have reportedly decided against loaning the German to Besiktas for a third season. The Turkish club do have the option to buy the goalkeeper, though do not look set to activate it. Liverpool will sit down and discuss the player’s future with both him and his representatives.
No clear contender for his signature has emerged as of yet, though he may benefit from a return to Germany. Prior to signing for Liverpool, he was named the second-best goalkeeper in the league and a return to familiar surroundings may help boost his confidence. For now, Karius is set to return to Liverpool for pre-season training.
