Sheffield Wednesday have announced the signing of Connor Wickham on loan from Crystal Palace. It will be the striker’s third spell on loan at Hillsborough having had previous spells in 2013 and 2014. Wickham has struggled for game time at Selhurst Park, featuring eight times and scoring once. Wickham will stay at Wednesday until the end of the season. The Championship club currently lie 12th in the table, five points off the play-off places.

Fans of the Owls will be hoping Wickham’s third spell on loan at the club will be as successful as the previous two occasions. His second spell was especially fruitful, with the target man netting eight goals in 11 games. The 26-year-old is in need of game time have been reduced to cameo appearances at Palace.
Connor Wickham burst on to the scene as a teenager at Ipswich Town. Big things were expected of the striker after he made his debut in 2009. His debut also made him Ipswich’s youngest ever player beating the previous record by 46 days. He left Ipswich for the Premier League having scored 15 goals in 76 appearances in all competitions.
A big-money move to Sunderland happened in 2011 with many fans expecting big things for the youngster. Although he took time to settle on Wearside, he scored some important goals as the Black Cats survived in the Premier League. After spells on loan at Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United, Wickham departed the Stadium of Light for London in 2015. He signed for Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee. Since joining the Eagles, the striker has featured in 50 games. However in recent times, the England U21 international has struggled to get into the Palace side.
Striker Will have to Wait For Debut
Wickham did not sign in time to play in the game against Millwall on Saturday. He will, however, be available for the February 8th game at Barnsley. Wednesday are hoping for a playoff spot come the end of the season. With 17 games remaining, Wednesday will be hoping Wickham has time to score the goals to achieve their aim.
