Danny Rose is set to leave Tottenham Hotspur in this transfer window. The England international left-back has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho, with Ben Davies preferred. He will join Newcastle United after the clubs agreed on a loan deal (BBC).

Rose will look to replicate the form that earned him England caps for his new side. The 29-year-old has played for his country 26 times since 2016, though is currently far from Southgate’s squad.
He has been looking for a move away from the club since summer, with Tottenham granting him time off to explore potential transfer options during pre-season.
Spurs Depth at Left-Back
Tottenham have enough depth at left-back that they won’t feel the impact of Rose’s departure. Summer signing Ryan Sessegnon was signed with that position in mind, whilst Ben Davies is also a solid performer. Jan Vertonghen can also fill in there if necessary, whilst the emergence of Japhet Tanganga bolsters Jose Mourinho’s defensive options.
Rose was coming to the end of his contract with Tottenham, so a transfer makes sense for all parties. Spurs have managed to make some money back rather than risk losing him for free in summer, whilst Newcastle have obtained a solid left-back. Danny Rose will also receive more game time than he has under Jose Mourinho, meaning that the move benefits him too.
The player is contracted at Spurs until June 2021, and he has vowed to fulfil this. Perhaps with more game time, Rose will be able to gather some new form. However, this move is more than likely to be a way for the player to see out his contract whilst still being able to play first-team football.
