Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed a fee for PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn. According to Fabrizio Romano, he has agreed personal terms with the club. He will provide attacking depth for the club, especially in Harry Kane‘s absence.
Steven Bergwijn Fee Agreed
Steven Bergwijn Set to Join Tottenham
Tottenham have reportedly agreed a fee of £25 million for the signature of Steven Bergwijn. He will bolster Jose Mourinho’s ranks considerably. Harry Kane is out injured for the long term, whilst Christian Eriksen has departed the club for Inter Milan.
He will provide Mourinho with another option up front. He will provide better quality than players such as Erik Lamela and will allow rotation without sacrificing quality. This will mean that the team aren’t as badly impacted when Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura do not play.
Bergwijn’s Quality
Bergwijn has certainly impressed for PSV already this season. The 22-year-old has already registered five goals and ten assists in 16 matches in the Dutch Eredivisie. It will be hoped that he can replicate this form in the Premier League and add to Spurs’ attack.
Tottenham currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, four points adrift of Chelsea in fourth place. They will be hoping that signing Bergwijn will be able to help them close that gap, particularly given the lack of transfer activity from those around them.
The deal means that Bergwijn will become Jose Mourinho’s second signing since he joined Spurs. Bergwijn has been linked to top European clubs in the past, so this shows the type of calibre that the Portuguese is able to attract to the club.
His signing makes sense, both in the short term and the long term. He will provide cover whilst Harry Kane is injured and has the quality to become a genuine first choice option when the squad is fit and firing.
