Porto striker Ze Luis is a player fellow Portuguese Jose Mourinho is interested in taking on loan to Tottenham Hotspur, according to Dan Kilpatrick of the London Evening Standard. With Harry Kane out until mid-April at best, Spurs look short on attacking power and Mourinho prefers a target man alongside pacier players. Mourinho sees Dele Alli playing behind the frontman and Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min as his pacesetters.
Ze Luis Could Join Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur
Who is Ze Luis?
The striker is 28-years-old and joined Porto from Spartak Moscow in the summer. He has already grabbed himself seven goals in 12 league outings as well as one goal in this season’s Champions League.
Ze Luis has been offered to Spurs to buy outright but Daniel Levy and Mourinho prefer the loan option with the option to buy at the end of that loan. This is not unusual for Tottenham as Giovanni Lo Celso and Gedson Fernandes have both joined the club on similar deals.
Not Spurs’ Only Option
Ze Luis is not the only player that Spurs have an interest in. Polish striker Krzysztof Piąte has also been offered to the club from AC Milan but the fees involved are putting Tottenham off pursuing that particular deal.
Short-Term Solution for Long-Term Gain
It has long been said that any striker signing for Tottenham Hotspur may be put off at the prospect of playing second fiddle to a fully fit Harry Kane. Jose Mourinho is keen to not only solve the short term issue of their talismans enforced absence but also bring in a striker that can complement Kane in the long term.
Ze Luis fits the bill for Mourinho so it will be interesting to see if Spurs pursue this deal to a conclusion in the coming days.
