A new contract for Jamie Bowden at Tottenham Hotspur sees the talented young midfielder remain with the club until at least 2023. There has been concern over the youth policy at Tottenham since Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino. Mourinho isn’t known for nurturing youth but at Spurs knows he will have to work with the academy as well as signing fresh faces.
Youngster’s New Contract – Who Is Jamie Bowden?
Bowden is highly regarded at Hotspur Way by the youth and development teams. He is a deep-lying midfielder and has a good range of passing. He is still very slight as one would expect from an 18-year-old but he has impressed those that matter within the club.
He has featured for the youth team and captained the U19’s in both Europa Youth games this season giving mature performances and not afraid to make his voice heard.
As reward for his performances, he joined the Tottenham squad that secured progress in the Champions League against Manchester City. At the end of the game he was seen celebrating with Fernando Llorente and the Spurs fans.
Comparison’s With Michael Carrick
The Daily Mail likens Bowden to former Spurs and Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, saying: “deep-lying anchorman with an expansive passing range akin to Michael Carrick.”
Mourinho was an admirer and worked with Carrick at former club Manchester United. Eric Dier has been favoured in that position thus far under Mourinho with Harry Winks considered a more dynamic midfielder who has the skill and attacking intensity that will suit against certain opponents.
Give Youth a Chance
The length of Jamie Bowden’s’ new contract suggests there is plenty of trust in the youngster. Loan periods may follow but the contract allays any initial concerns over Mourinho and his trust in youth.
