Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka has hit back against former Manchester United fullback Patrice Evra who called the Gunners ‘babies’ following their defeat by Sheffield United. The Swiss international said his team cannot rely on excuses about their mentality and added that Evra ‘speaks too much’.
Granit Xhaka Defends Arsenal Against Patrice Evra Criticism
Forceful Words
“We have to stop speaking about mental [issues] or bull**** like this. For me it’s the same if you play home or away. You have to win.”
Speaking directly about Evra’s comments, Granit Xhaka added: “A lot of people speak too much. I hear that the first time he speaks something against us.
“I have a lot of respect for him, he was a great player. But you have to be careful what you say. It’s not only him it’s a lot of people. They speak a lot of bullshit about us. It’s always the same.
“For me it’s strange. They were in the same situation as us, they were players as well.”
“Maybe sometimes it was good, sometimes it was not so good. If you speak every weekend, every game, bullshit they speak, they don’t get respect about what they say.
“I tell you the honest [truth]. I’m not interested in what people say and speak. We have to speak in our group to improve things and work hard.”
Addressing the goal his side conceded, Granit Xhaka went on to say: “Of course it’s frustrating. It’s so easy. It’s too easy if you lose the game because of a corner or free-kick.
“We have to improve things. We had good things today as well, we were compact in defence. They didn’t have a lot of chances. But if you want to be in the top four you have to beat Sheffield.”
Arsenal will face an encounter with Vitoria Guimaraes on Thursday before Crystal Palace on Sunday. Both matches are at home, so fans will get a close view of whether or not Granit Xhaka’s words hold water or not.
