Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes has been handed a slight set-back after being forced off for England Under-20s through injury last night (Monday 14 October).

Hip Knock For Downes

The Town midfielder has returned to Suffolk to receive treatment for a hip injury.

Downes featured as a second-half substitute for Blues’ team-mate Andre Dozzell for England Under-20s.

The Young Lions fell to a 3-0 defeat by the Czech Republic at Peterborough United’s Weston Homes Stadium.

Downes’ injury, ten minutes from time, meant England finished the game with ten men.

The knock makes him a doubt ahead of Town’s trip to Accrington Stanley on Sunday.

Town physio Matt Byard said: “It’s an impact injury to his left hip.

“We will see how it settles down over the next few days before we have a clearer idea of whether he will be okay for the weekend.”

Midfield Options Galore

Town should have no real concerns if Downes is forced to sit out the trip to Lancashire.

Among their ranks Town have numerous players who are capable of playing a central midfield role.

The Blues have Cole Skuse, Jon Nolan, Teddy Bishop, Andre Dozzell and Emyr Huws all capable of playing in the centre.

Danny Rowe is also one who has recently been tested as an attacking central midfielder.

Unbeaten Start

Town are one of two teams from England’s professional leagues who remain unbeaten.

Paired with Liverpool as the only sides yet to taste defeat, Ipswich have had a blistering start to the season.

After being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship last term, Ipswich have kept clean sheets in seven of their 11 league matches this season.

Paul Lambert’s side are four points ahead of Wycombe Wanderers at the top of Sky Bet League One.

With a game in hand over three of the top four sides, Town could be nine points clear of third-place if victorious at the Wham Stadium.
