Sunderland Weekly Roundup: Black Cats Back to Winning Ways
Takeover Latest
According to James Copley of the Sunderland Echo, the takeover by an American consortium, could be completed by the end of the week. The consortium which includes Michael Dell the founder and CEO of Dell technologies is now very close to being completed.
After scandals surrounding Bury FC and Bolton Wanderers, it is no surprise that this takeover has taken extra time to complete. The EFL are under pressure to ensure any future club takeovers abide by their Financial Fair Play and Salary Cost Management Protocols.
It is understood that Michael Dell will be a passive investor with John Phelan, Robert Platek and Glenn Fuhrman the majority shareholders. Current owners Stewart Donald and Charlie Methven will remain at the club.
Three First Half Goals Seal Victory
Sunderland returned to winning ways at the weekend. After a disappointing defeat at Peterborough, a victory was needed. After a nervous start where the Black Cats’ hosts Accrington Stanley took an early lead, Sunderland scored three first-half goals to claim the points.
Lynden Gooch equalised two minutes after Accrington’s opener and then Aiden McGeady fired into the top corner. Marc McNulty then scored a tap in to put the Black Cats in control. Both sides had chances in the second half but it was Sunderland who claimed victory.
Jack Ross Rightly Annoyed With Criticism
After Saturday’s win away at Accrington Stanley, a small section of Sunderland supporters were still critical of the performance. The Black Cats have won six of the last seven but some believe the side should be doing better. Jack Ross responded to the unfair criticism saying:
“It’s tiresome and it’s part of the problem at this club. We win 3-1 away from home, and always want to improve on what we do, I just fail to see sometimes what will make people satisfied. To continue to be critical of any sort of performance and result is negative and is almost like an anchor stopping the club moving forward”
The Black Cats are at present a League One team in League one. Fans, no matter how much it hurts must accept this until promotion is achieved. Negativity will only breed negativity, on and off the pitch.
Benjamin Kimpioka Contract Latest
19-year-old prospect Kimpioka is currently in the final year of his contract. Sunderland are keen to extend his deal, and if the player is to be believed, he wants to stay. However, a contract has yet to be signed.
According to Jack Ross, the club have offered the player a good contract but the player has not signed it.
“I would like him to stay at the club, I think he has potential. We’ve offered him what we feel is a good contract for a young player who has shown potential but not achieved anything in his career yet.”
Sunderland Weekly Roundup: Big Sam Linked With a Return
In other news, Alan Nixon of the Sun has reported that former manager Sam Allardyce is interested in a return to management. According to the report, he has his sights set on his old job Sunderland. Whether there is any substance to this report remains to be seen with Jack Ross still in charge and unlikely to be leaving any time soon as he attempts to get his team promoted.
