After signing defender Joel Lynch on Monday, Sunderland could be set to make another signing in the near future. Sheffield Wednesday left-back Morgan Fox is believed to be on the Black Cats radar. Today’s Sunderland transfer news looks at the defender and also new signing Joel Lynch.
Sunderland Transfer News
Since the departure of Bryan Oviedo, Jack Ross has been searching for a replacement. At present, Denver Hume is the only left-back in the first-team squad. Although Hume is playing well, competition is required.
Bid Rejected
According to Phil Smith of the Sunderland Echo, Sheffield Wednesday have rejected a bid for Fox from the Wearsiders. This will not deter Sunderland and they are expected to return with an improved over in the coming days. It appears that manager Jack Ross has made Fox his number one target and is determined to get the defender.
Who is Morgan Fox
25-year-old Fox currently plays for Sheffield Wednesday. He is a left-back who can also play as a central defender if required. Fox began his career at Charlton Athletic before moving to Hillsborough two years ago. He has played 194 games, mainly in the Championship, scoring three goals.
Six foot one inch Fox has been capped seven times at Under-21 level by Wales. He has been called up to the senior side but has yet to make an appearance.
Keen on a Move?
It is understood that Fox would be keen on a move to Wearside. He is currently fighting for his place at Sheffield Wednesday. He made his second appearance of the season at Preston last weekend. However, he is keen to have regular first-team opportunities. Fox is yet to comment on a possible move to Sunderland.
Sunderland Transfer News: New Signing Joel Lynch Speaks
Meanwhile, Sunderland completed the signing on Monday of central defender Joel Lynch. The 31-year-old left QPR at the end of last season and has signed a one-year deal.
Speaking to Sunderland’s official website Safc.com, Lynch is looking forward to proving he should be in the team. “I want to work my way into the team because I haven’t come here to expect to just walk straight in. I know the players here in the squad are offering me great competition and I realise I’ve got to work my way into that team as quickly as I can and do my best for the club.”
