Takeover Latest

Four American businessmen are in advanced talks to take over the club. Glenn Furhman, Michael Dell, John Phelan and Robert Platek are the men looking to agree a deal which would see them have a controlling share of the club.

Phelan and Platek were in attendance at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. They watched on as the Black Cats beat Wimbledon 3-1 in front of almost 30,000 fans.

It is believed that the estimated worth of the men involved in the takeover is in the billions. Michael Dell is believed to be one of the richest men in the world. He is the CEO of Dell Technologies and has an estimated net worth of $31.8 billion US Dollars.

King Maguire

Chris Maguire continues to earn his “King” status on Wearside. He capped a superb display against Wimbledon with a hat-trick. His performance earned him a deserved standing ovation when he was substituted late in the game.

Maguire’s performances and goals have already earned him cult status at Sunderland in just over a year. Boss Jack Ross is keen for the fan favourite to keep producing his impressive form.

“He likes working with us, he likes my staff and he has a good relationship with me but I’m on top of him all the time because he possesses quality, there’s no doubt he’s a good player, it’s just keeping him on it all the time. When he does it he’s a really effective player for me and he’ll play all the time.”

Unbeaten Run Continues

The past week saw the Black Cats continue their unbeaten start to the season. The victory over promotion rivals Portsmouth was followed by a midweek victory at Rochdale. Aiden McGeady and Charlie Wyke scoring in a 2-1 victory.

Saturday saw AFC Wimbledon at the Stadium of Light. A Chris Maguire hat-trick and an impressive team performance saw Sunderland go joint top of the table after a 3-1 win.

Lynch Arrives and Loovens Leaves

Dutch defender Glenn Loovens was released last week. The 35-year-old struggled for fitness after arriving last summer. He made 13 starts. His last appearance came in December; however, it was a disappointing game as he was sent off and the team were defeated.

With Loovens leaving, it left a space in the squad for another central defender. That position was filled by Joel Lynch. The defender signed a one-year deal. Lynch arrives on a free transfer having left Queen’s Park Rangers at the end of last season.

Lynch was clearly delighted to have completed his move. “I’ve known about the deal for a week or so and I’m just delighted to get it all done now. I travelled up on Sunday and looked around the place today. It’s an amazing club and I’m just excited to get going because it has everything you need to succeed.”
