Everton and Marco Silva are looking to improve on an inconsistent season in the Premier League in 2018/19. A final place of eighth, 17 points off the top four that many thought they would be targeting, was not a great return. A fourth-round exit in the FA Cup and third-round departure in the League cup revealed that there is still much work to be done at Goodison Park.
Marco Silva Looking For Consistency With Everton
Everton to Break Top Four – Marco Silva Must Deliver
Marco Silva was courted by Everton for some time and it was hoped he could deliver a top-four finish or at least challenge for the top four. Ultimately, it was a poor season and Everton flattered to deceive. Fast and exciting performances such as the 5-1 win over Burnley were all too often clouded by abysmal showings such as the home 6-2 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
At Hull City and Watford, despite good attacking intent, Silva presided over some poor defending and didn’t seem to have learned his lesson at Everton last season. Simple errors will need to be eradicated if the blue half of Merseyside is to truly challenge the top four.
Transfers
Everton have been busy stretching their ranks in the summer transfer window. Andre Gomes, on loan last season, signed from Barcelona. Fabian Delph joined from Manchester City and Huddersfield Town’s goalkeeper Jonas Lossl came into to provide competition for Jordan Pickford.
Key Players
Gylfi Sigurdsen was the midfield maestro at the heart of Everton’s best play and with his ability to get goals from midfield will be a key player once more. The intelligence and guile of Andre Gomes can open up defences and the fact he was with the club on loan last season means he doesn’t need to settle in. The main player will again be Richarlison. His 14 goals in all competitions will be a target for him to try and beat this time around.
Predictions – Marco Silva Aiming for Top Four.
If the defensive frailties that follow Marco Silva are ironed out, Everton may just cause a few teams above them to look nervously over their shoulders from the top four. A good run in either of the cups will be welcome too.
Predicted Finish – 6th
