United Reject Pogba Bid And Are Close To Mandzukic Signing
According to James Ducker of The Telegraph, Manchester United have rejected an initial offer from Real Madrid for Paul Pogba. The deal included £27 million as well as Colombian attacker James Rodriguez, whom Madrid want to sell. United reportedly believe that Real Madrid do not have the funds to sign Paul Pogba this summer. The offer, counting Rodriguez’s valuation of £50 million, as dictated by Madrid, was only half of United’s £160 million asking price.
Alvise Cagnazzo of Mail Online, though, reports that a new forward could be on his way to Old Trafford. The Red Devils have agreed a £6.2 million-a-year deal for the Croatian forward, who has reportedly agreed terms until 2022. They see him as the ideal replacement for Romelu Lukaku, whom they are trying to sell before Thursday’s deadline.
Conte Refuses To Give Up On Lukaku
Alex Terrell of The Sun writes that Antonio Conte is refusing to give up trying to lure Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan. After the break-down in talks over a swap deal involving Paulo Dybala from Juventus, Inter have re-entered the fray. Inter will reportedly table a £73 million bid for the Belgian striker, as United seek to recoup the funds they spent on him two years ago.
Conte tried to sign Lukaku for Chelsea the summer he left Everton but failed to do so. Now he is hoping to not be pipped a second time. Lukaku has made 96 appearances for United, scoring 42 goals.
Lo Celso Nearing Spurs Switch
Terrell also writes in The Sun that Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Argentinian Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis. The north London side have agreed a £55 million fee with Betis to bring him to the Premier League. He could reportedly be a replacement for Christian Eriksen, who remains on Manchester United’s radar.
Lo Celso scored 16 goals for Betis last season, on a loan from Paris Saint-Germain, which became permanent in April. Lo Celso’s future has looked unsure since Betis signed Nabil Fekir from Lyon earlier this summer. Now it could finally be resolved.
