In this Liverpool FPL preview, let’s look at the fantasy assets of the runners-up of last season. This article will focus primarily on the first six fixtures.

Liverpool FPL Preview and Top Picks

Liverpool had an incredible Premier League season in 2018/19 with a highly impressive tally of 97 points. The Reds scored 89 goals and conceded just 22 over the whole season. However, Manchester City still pipped them to the Premier League crown. This season Jürgen Klopp’s side will be striving to win the English League title for the first time in 30 years.

First Six Fixtures

Norwich City (H) | Southampton (A) | Arsenal (H) | Burnley (A)| Newcastle United (H) | Chelsea (A)

In the opening six gameweeks, Liverpool will face only two of last season’s top Six (Arsenal at home and Chelsea away). The relatively comfortable start will help the Reds as they might not have key player Sadio Mané available from the very start as he reached the Africa Cup of Nations final with his country last month.

Best Fantasy Assets

Mohamed Salah (£12.5) was the FPL top scorer with 259 points last season. However, at certain times during the season, he did not seem to be at his best. This is mainly due to his record-breaking 2017/18 campaign, where he recorded an all-time high total of 303 FPL points. It will be interesting to see how he performs this season. Regardless, the Egyptian king just has to be in any fans’ side for the first game of the season as he can seriously punish the new boys Norwich City at Anfield.

Roberto Firmino (£9.5) is a relatively affordable option in Liverpool’s front line. He scored less than Salah and Mané but still returned an impressive 160 FPL points last season. The Brazillian is a decent option to have in a FPL side for consistent points.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5) is one of the best defenders in the world and a great FPL asset as well. He will provide the fantasy managers with a steady stream of points throughout the season. The big Dutch defender costs 0.5 units less than Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold which could be crucial for the balance of the FPL squads.

Alisson (£6.0) made a huge difference to the Liverpool side last season. He could be the set-and-forget keeper for any FPL squad.

Andrew Robertson (£7.0) was the highest-scoring defender last season. The Scottish full-back is a solid choice but has now been assigned a premium price. He is a nailed-on starter with no apparent backup in the Liverpool squad.

Sadio Mané (£11.5) had a magnificent 2018/19 season. His participation in the opening fixture is in doubt but he could be a great choice from gameweek two/three.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.0) scored 185 points last season. He was the third-highest scoring defender. However, he missed a few games in between so his points per game were the highest. His price could be a deterrence to the FPL managers though especially with the return of Joe Gomez who could start at Right Back from time to time.

Differentials

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (£6.5) will be like a new signing for the Reds this season. The former gunner has the potential to score solid FPL points if he can nail down a starting spot.
