Blackburn Rovers Complete Signing of Bradley Johnson

Bradley Johnson Makes Move To Ewood Park

32-year-old Bradley Johnson joins Blackburn Rovers on a two-year deal after completing a free transfer.

The experienced midfielder becomes Rovers’ third signing of the summer. Tony Mowbray has already added Stewart Downing and Joe Hilton in this transfer window.

Johnson’s career began with Arsenal and Cambridge before establishing himself at Northampton Town.

However, his performances at Sixfields eventually led to Leeds United signing the midfielder in January 2008.

Johnson went on to make 140 appearances for the Whites before signing for Norwich City in July 2011. The midfielder played a pivotal role in the Canaries’ promotion back to the top-flight in the 2014-15 season.

The 32-year-old made 154 appearances across four seasons with the Norfolk side. Johnson completed a club record £6 million move to Derby County in September 2015.

Johnson has made 140 appearances across the past four seasons with Derby. The midfielder has helped the Rams reach the Championship play-offs on three occasions; although, the Midlands side have been unsuccessful each time.

Discussing his move to Ewood Park, Johnson highlighted the important role that former team-mate Elliott Bennett had in persuading him to sign for Rovers.

Elliott Bennett is one of my best friends in football and is someone who has been here for a long time,” he said to the club website.

“As soon as he found out there was interest he was on the phone straight away.

“We signed together at Norwich eight or nine years ago and have been good friends ever since. He is the godfather to one of my sons.

“We’ve spoken near enough every week for the past nine years and have played against each other plenty of times. Now I’m back with him I’m hopeful of many more great games playing alongside him.

“It’s gone full circle. We started together at Norwich with the dream of playing in the Premier League together. We’re a little older now but we’re back again and are keen to finish our careers here on a high.”
