Macauley Bonne’s Career So Far
Macauley Bonne’s career had been fairly standard until the last two seasons. With a plentiful supply of goals for the O’s, Bonne has impressed under the guidance of Justin Edinburgh.
Bonne signed for the O’s from Colchester United in July 2017 on a two-year deal.
Soon after arriving at Brisbane Road, the talented frontman got his goalscoring tally rolling. In his first campaign, he scored 22 goals from 44 league appearances and was crowned Player of the Season.
This season Bonne provided 23 goals as Orient returned to the English Football League after winning the National League title.
What This Means For the Future
Bonne contributed over 30% of Leyton Orient’s league goals last season; therefore, the O’s will need to act quickly to replace the talismanic striker.
However, Charlton Athletic will be boosted by the capture of an in-form striker. 23-year-old Bonne is relatively unproven at Championship level; although, ambitions for the Addicks will not be too high given they only won promotion back to the second tier via the play-offs this term.
Bonne had been linked with a move to Premier League side Leicester City, with reports coming from Sarah Clapson and Richard Cusack of Leicestershire Live. However, The Valley is the chosen destination for the 2019/20 season.
The Addicks beat a number of clubs for Bonne’s signature, including Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United.
Meanwhile, Bonne’s strike partner, Josh Koroma, continues to attract interest.
The O’s number 19 was heavily linked with a January move to Sunderland; however, the London side held on to retain the shot-stopper.
A former member of Orient’s academy, Koroma scored eleven goals last season and is reportedly a target for Huddersfield Town, according to Steven Chicken of Examiner Live.
