Of all the top six clubs in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur have had more injuries than most. Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Harry Kane (twice) Son Heung-min, Toby Alderweireld, Harry Winks, Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen have all been out at some point. Performances from the likes of Lucas Moura are a testament to the manager and the team’s resolve that they are still in the fight for the top four as well as holding an advantage as they look to make it through to the Champions League semi-finals.
So, a hat-trick at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from Moura gives Mauricio Pochettino a welcome selection headache.
Stunning Hat-Trick from Lucas Moura Gives Mauricio Pochettino Welcome Selection Headache
Five Games Without Kane for Tottenham, Zero Defeats
Mauricio Pochettino made seven changes for the visit of Huddersfield Town and it was a calculated risk that paid off. Son was the hero in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final but was rested here with Harry Kane unlikely to play again this season.
Huddersfield, already relegated, offered nothing against a rejuvenated Tottenham, who are thriving in the new ground and the incredible atmosphere it generates.
Lucas Moura was tasked with leading the line and he did so with some style.
Harry Kane is undoubtedly the main man for Spurs and England. Whenever he is injured, the naysayers come out quickly to suggest Tottenham cannot cope without their talismanic striker. Yet, they have won all five games they have played without him this season. It shows how resilient this team have become. Spurs are more than the sum of their parts. Lucas Moura did his chances of starting on Wednesday night no harm at all.
Selection Headache Welcome For Pochettino
Tottenham play Manchester City twice now in the space of a few days. They take a slender 1-0 advantage to the Etihad on Wednesday night but did not concede an away goal and you would be hard pushed to bet against Tottenham getting an away goal which could be enough to see them through. They then need to get a positive result to keep the top four chase alive. Lucas Moura getting a sublime hat-trick of quality finishes may have come just at the right time, and a pairing of Moura and Son could be a sight the City defence would rather not have to try and stop.
