Atalanta was always a team of great potential. They were always able to challenge the best Italian clubs. The club never won a Serie A title in their history, but the current squad is looking to write their names in the club’s hall of fame.
This team is capable of anything, including winning trophies. With a very talented squad, Atalanta’s chances of silverware are very high. The coach Gian Piero Gasperini could win something for the club this season.
Atalanta Could Win a Trophy and Qualify for the Champions League
Last Wednesday, Atalanta was able to eliminate Serie A leaders Juventus from the Coppa Italia. The 3-0 win surely boosted the squad, now they advance into the semi-final of the tournament and will face Fiorentina. This form also continues in the league.
The Orobici are fifth in the league, one point away from a Champions League spot. All of this great form is not only because of the players, but it is also due to Gian Piero Gasperini.
Gasperini took charge in the summer of 2016. Before he took charge, Atalanta finished thirteenth place. In his first season, the Italian was able to take them to fourth place in Serie A. He continues to improve the squad and defy all odds. Many consider Atalanta one of the favourites to win the Coppa Italia and to qualify to the Champions League.
The squad consists of very talented players. Duvan Zapata, who scored 15 goals and assisted three in 22 appearances in all competitions. Their captain, Papu Gomez, who is very experienced and contributes to many goals.
Mario Pasalic, who is on loan from Chelsea, and many other young talents. Gasperini was able to make the players work together in order to beat bigger clubs who are financially stronger.
Much should be expected from Atalanta in the coming years. They already have a great squad and will continue to grow. This is one of the golden generations for the club and they will not fail to impress. Gasperini is pushing the players the give all their effort and hard work into every game.
