Football League Transfer News
WBA Want McCarthy
Everton midfielder James McCarthy is wanted by Championship side West Brom. The midfielder has not played in a year having suffered a broken leg. The 28-year-old is close to a comeback and Everton are keen for him to get first-team football.
Championship high-flyers West Brom are looking to strengthen their squad as they seek a return to the Premier League. A loan deal could suit all concerned, especially the Republic of Ireland international as he attempts to get his career back on track.
Midlands Rivals Chase Hause
Albion are also interested in signing Wolves defender Kortney Hause, according to reports. However, they could face competition from rivals Aston Villa. Wolves are willing to listen to offers with Villa reportedly having a £2 million bid considered. Wanderers are looking for almost double that figure.
West Brom look set to step in and beat their rivals to sign Hause. Boss Darren Moore is keen to bolster his defensive options having conceded 34 times this season. Villa boss Dean Smith is also eager to strengthen and may have to look elsewhere should Hause move to Albion.
Sunderland Interested in Heneghan
Sunderland boss Jack Ross is reportedly interested in signing Sheffield United defender Ben Heneghan. The central defender, who can also play at right-back, is currently on loan at Blackpool but can be recalled this month. Blackburn Rovers are also monitoring the situation.
The 25-year-old has impressed this season during his 28 appearances. He also played against the Black Cats on New Years Day. Heneghan joined United in 2017 from Motherwell but has played just once. Ross has made little secret of his desire to strengthen his defence and has indicated that a breakthrough is close.
Swindon Sign Two
Swindon Town recently announced the signings of two new players. Striker Ben House has signed on-loan from Reading, and also Canice Carroll from Brentford on-loan. House, a Scottish U20 international, has impressed for Reading’s U23’s this season. He has scored 11 goals in 16 starts.
19-year-old Carroll is a versatile defender. He joined Brentford from Oxford last summer but has yet to make an appearance. However, he did feature 17 times for Oxford last season, scoring once. Town are currently in the bottom half of League Two but still have hopes of reaching the play-offs.
