Football League Transfer News
EPL Clubs Chasing Matt Phillips
West Brom could find themselves in a battle to keep winger Matt Phillips. Premier League strugglers Cardiff and Burnley are keen to sign the 27-year-old to help with their survival hopes. The winger has been in good form this season. So far, he has contributed five goals and six assists.
Phillips has 18-months left on his current contract; however, Albion are keen to extend this. Losing him would be a huge blow with the influential Harvey Barnes on the verge of being recalled by Leicester City. Claude Puel has been impressed by Barnes during his loan spell and could be back at the King Power Stadium sooner rather than later.
Pompey Could Lose Lowe
League One Portsmouth’s promotion hopes could be dealt a huge blow. Top scorer Jamal Lowe is attracting interest from a host of Championship clubs. The 24-year-old has been in fine form this season, scoring 11 goals. Promotion hopefuls Leeds United, West Brom, Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest have all been linked with the attacker.
Lowe, who signed from non-league side Hampton and Richmond Borough in 2016, has made 93 appearances for Portsmouth, scoring 23 times. The winger, who can also play centrally, has been a major part in Pompey’s rise to the top of League One. His form has understandably attracted interest.
Ipswich Keen on Keane
Hull City forward Will Keane is on the verge of joining Ipswich Town on loan. The Tractor Boys are desperate for all the help they can get with them being adrift at the bottom of the Championship. Keane’s contract ends in the summer and, if he does leave on loan, it is unlikely that he will return to Hull. The Tigers have the option to extend his deal. Presently, it appears that this option will not be taken.
Keane signed for the Tigers from Manchester United in 2016 for £1 million. His time in Hull has not been successful. Just one goal in 26 appearances has seen the forward fall down the pecking order. A move to Ipswich would appear to suit all concerned.
Could Bradford Lose Payne?
In-form Bradford City could be dealt a blow. Millwall are reportedly planning to make a bid for their on-loan midfielder Jack Payne. The 24-year-old has impressed this season since his loan move from Huddersfield. He has scored eight goals so far and his performances have made Millwall boss Neil Harris an admirer.
Huddersfield have the option to recall Payne this month should a club pay a fee to make a deal permanent. The midfielder is not in Huddersfield’s plans and the reported figure of £500,000 should be enough for Millwall to secure their man.
Oldham to Sign French Midfielder?
Oldham Athletic could be on the verge of signing French midfielder Mohamad Sylla. Reports in France are claiming that the deal to take the defensive midfielder from Sannois-Saint-Gratien is done. According to reports, Sylla has already watched a game at Oldham and was impressed with what he saw. No comment has yet to come from the Latics.
