On Monday, a trio of England’s finest young talents signed new long-term deals with their clubs. First, Joe Gomez signed a new deal with Liverpool, then Kyle Walker-Peters announced he’d renewed with Tottenham and, finally, Manchester City announced Phil Foden had signed a new six-year deal at the Etihad.
Young England Starlets Signing New Deals
Joe Gomez
It’s such a pity that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez fractured his leg last week against Burnley. The contract extends Gomez’s stay on Merseyside through until 2024, an awfully long way away. Gomez is a versatile defender who can play both right-back and centre back. However, his long-term future for Liverpool is expected to be at centre-back. The 21-year-old had been coming into form as a defensive partner to Virgil van Dijk.
Kyle Walker-Peters
After signing a contract extension back in May, Kyle Walker-Peters has once again signed a new deal at Tottenham. This time, it runs until 2023, whereas his last deal lasted until 2021. Walker-Peters is a 21-year-old Tottenham academy product who was part of the England U20 World Cup-winning squad last year. Now, Walker-Peters is beginning to make a name for himself at Spurs and is hoping this contract will lead into more first-team action.
Phil Foden
Finally, on Monday afternoon, Manchester City announced Phil Foden’s new six-year contract at the Etihad. The prospect of a deal had been reported some time ago as both sides were eager to get one done. Foden is inching closer and closer to the City first team, as he has made himself a regular of Pep Guardiola’s matchday squad. The Stockport-born Foden has been a City fan his whole life. With a new six-year deal at his boyhood club, Phil Foden is ready to show the world his name.
