Former AFC Wimbledon manager has been appointed as the new boss of League Two strugglers Notts County. Ardley replaces Harry Kewell, who was sacked after just ten weeks. County’s 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Cheltenham Town meant they now sit second bottom of League Two, a real shock considering how well they performed last season.
Neil Ardley Appointed Notts County Manager
46-year-old Ardley recently left AFC Wimbledon having taken them from non-league to League One. He now takes on a difficult challenge in getting his new side away from the wrong end of the table. However, he is not due to take over until after next Tuesday’s home game against Carlisle United. He is currently on holiday with his family. Caretaker Steve Chettle will remain in charge until Ardley arrives.
With just 18 games gone this season, County are now onto their third permanent manager. Ardley follows Kevin Nolan, who took the club to the play-offs last season, and Harry Kewell.
No announcement has been made on the length of his contract. However, Ardley has said that County were one of the small number of clubs that could tempt him into a quick return to management having left AFC Wimbledon on 12th November. “There are few clubs who could have tempted me into such a quick return to management following what was obviously an emotional departure from Wimbledon, a club I love dearly. But the chance to manage Notts County is one I couldn’t let pass and I will come back from my break fully refreshed and determined to drive us up the table.”
Ardley will take charge of County for the first time on 4th December, once he has returned from his holiday, as they travel to Sunderland for an EFL Trophy match. County have played three, won one and lost two of their games in this competition so far.
