Fantasy Premier League managers are rejoicing all over the world as the Premier League is back after what seemed like an insanely long international break. Let’s look ahead to what’s in store for us on Gameweek 9.

Captaincy Picks

Last time around, the top captaincy pick absolutely bombed as Harry Kane not only did not score, he also got booked and returned only a solitary point! What a disaster! The second most popular captain, Eden Hazard, did the business and those clever and brave enough to go with him reaped the rewards. This week is another one with an obvious captain pick.

Manchester City have a really juicy home game this week against Burnley. Sergio Aguero does not play international football anymore. How can one not choose a fresh Kun Aguero as their captain this week? Well, last week’s debacle might deter some but you would have to be really brave with giant cojones to go without him as your captain. Aguero has those games where he scores three or four goals and this could be one of those.

On current form, Eden Hazard must be odds-on to score again. Manchester United are not the toughest of opponents these days and a comfortable win cannot be ruled out. It might be a cheeky option to pick Hazard as your captain.

Liverpool have a good matchup as well. However, their key players are all injury doubts. Both Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are doubtful although many expect Salah to start. Roberto Firmino also played international matches so Klopp might decide to start an in-form Daniel Sturridge. One definitely cannot rule out a Salah brace at Huddersfield but the Egyptian has not been at his scintillating best off-late.

One might make a case for the in-form Alexandre Lacazette to be a good captaincy pick this week as well. He has a decent fixture and has been scoring and playing well.

Injury Concerns

Last week’s big news was the return of Benjamin Mendy to the City starting eleven. He should keep his place.

Salah and Virgil van Dijk both returned early from international duty with injuries. However, they were both pictured training so they should be okay to make the squad. No concrete news has arrived for Mane and Naby Keita as yet.

Petr Cech will likely miss out this week so expect Bernd Leno to keep his spot. Sokratis will also be out.

Delle Alli, Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen remain out but Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele are back.
