This afternoon it has been confirmed that Aston Villa have sacked manager, Steve Bruce. Villa’s new owners backed Bruce in the summer to take the club back to the Premier League. However, form and performances have not been what the owners and fans were hoping for. After discontent amongst fans at games recently and a home draw against Preston the axe has fallen.
Aston Villa Sack Steve Bruce
The former Sunderland and Hull City boss took charge at Villa Park in 2016. He was appointed to get the club back to the Premier League; however, he failed to do so. Last season he guided the club to the play-off final but his side were defeated by Fulham.
This season has been a struggle for Villa both on and off the pitch. The final straw came last night as they drew 3-3 at home to relegation candidates, Preston North End. The visitors were 2-0 down at one stage but Villa let them back into the game to eventully lead 3-2. Fans began chanting for Bruce to be sacked. A cabbage was even thrown from the stands.
Bruce leaves with the club in 12th place in the Championship. they have 15 points from their 11 games this season. They have won just three league games this season and just one game in their last 10 in all competitions.
Bruce brought in Premier League experience during the transfer window. the likes of Tammy Abraham and Everton’s Yannick Bolasie came in but they could not help improve form.

John Terry Favourite
Former Chelsea and Villa defender John Terry has become an early favourite to take over at Villa. The ex England international has been out of work since leaving Villa Park at the end of last season. Terry has been linked with a coaching role at Chelsea; however, he may be tempted by the top job at Villa.
