Championship Transfer News: Nacer Chadli and Jon Walter Latest
Ins and Possibly an Out at ‘Boro
Southampton’s Sam McQueen became Middlesbrough’s sixth summer signing on Thursday. The left-sided midfielder has signed a season-long loan deal at the Riverside. The England Under-21 international has played 20 games so far for the Saints but is not in Mark Hughes’ plans at present.
Boro are also hoping to sign Millwall midfielder George Saville this week. A loan deal which will include an option to buy clause is being discussed.
The loan will be until the end of the season with a reported seven million pound price tag to be paid should the deal become permanent. Saville signed for Millwall at the beginning of last season from Chelsea for £350,000. He also made his Northern Ireland debut and the end of last year.
Striker Martin Braithwaite is believed to have informed Tony Pulis that he wishes to leave the club. At least two clubs in Spain are interested with Braithwaite eager to go. Clubs in Spain have until tomorrow to complete deals.
Villa’s Elphick to Hull or QPR on Loan?
Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick is being chased by two Championship clubs. Both Hull City and Queens Park Rangers are interested in signing the 30-year-old. The former Bournemouth centre-back moved to Villa Park in 2016 but has made just 31 appearances.
Elphic, who lifted the Championship title at Bournemouth before moving to Villa, would be seen as a welcome addition to both City and Rangers. Both clubs are at the wrong end of the division with QPR currently having the worst defensive record.
Rangers are also reportedly interested in taking Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron on a season-long loan.
French Defender to Villa?
Highly-rated French defender Harold Moukoudi looks set to become Aston Villa’s seventh summer signing. Celtic and Middlesbrough are also believed to be interested; however, it appears that Villa are winning the race.
The France Under-20 international will arrive on loan from Le Havre with an obligation to buy. Moukoudi was expected in England today for talks and a medical ahead of the deal being completed.
Nacer Chadli to Monaco?
West Bromwich Albion’s Belgian international Nacer Chadli is on the verge of joining Monaco. It is believed that Chadli is to have a medical today and that the clubs have a agreed a fee of around £10 million.
The 29-year-old has played 36 league games, scoring six goals for Albion. He has yet to feature this season as the club look to bounce straight back to the Premier League.
Jon Walters set for Ipswich Loan
Republic of Ireland international Jon Walters has left Burnley on loan just one year after signing. The forward has had an injury-hit time at Burnley and has been advised he is not in Sean Dyche’s plans. Ipswich Town have signed the forward until January.
Sunderland were also said to be interested as they look to bolster their attack in the hope of securing promotion at the first attempt. However, the Tractor Boys won the race.
It will be Jon Walters’ second spell at Portman Road. He scored 32 goals between 2007 and 2010 before leaving for Stoke City.
