Editorial (July 8, 2018) — England is on its way to becoming the first country to win three consecutive FIFA World Cup tournaments.
After beating Sweden and reaching the semifinals, the Three Lions kept the “It’s coming home” phrase more alive than ever before.
In fact, England is aiming for a historic “three-peat” after winning both the FIFA U20 and U17 World Cups last year.
England Chasing Unique Three-Peat at the 2018 FIFA World Cup
Yes, the Englishmen have dominated the world’s football in the recent events. Now they’re focusing on bringing home the major World Cup trophy for the first time since 1966.
The Three Lions will have an epic battle against Croatia in the semifinal and if they survive they will have to face either France or Belgium in the final. Thus far, it is the toughest run they could have imagined, but don’t count them out yet. England have proven they have the talent to take it all in Russia.
2017 was definitely England’s year. If it wasn’t enough, they became the European under-19 champions in Georgia. So it could be four titles in a one-year span for the country.
Here’s a look on how England can become the first country to win three straight FIFA World Cup tournaments.
The U20 Team Seals the Deal
This was the beginning of the recent successes for England. The triumph at the recently played U20 World Cup marked the first title for the country since the glory days in 1966, when they beat Venezuela 1-0 in the final on June 11, 2017, in South Korea.
Maybe none of those players made the final 23-man squad for Russia, but Lewis Cook, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and the tournament’s Golden Ball winner Dominic Solanke are rising stars who will surely become the face of England squad in the future.
It was the first U20 trophy in 11 previous appearances for the country.
The U17 Youngsters Follow up
Three months after England’s first international soccer title in over a half century, the youngest ones emulated the U20 feat and lifted the World Cup trophy in India on October 28 after defeating Spain 5-2 in the championship match.
Again, England ruled the world. This time was even better because they trailed 2-0 in the final only to come back and win.
Manchester City prodigy Philip Foden earned the Golden Ball award and Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster ended as the Golden Boot with eight goals in seven games.
This was also the first U17 trophy for England in four appearances.
The Three Lions Are Next
Now is the time to shine for the senior team. They have the players to keep the country in winning form
Harry Kane currently leads the Golden Boot race with six goals. However, he is not the only individual talent on this roster.
They trust in themselves, the whole country is by their side and the inspirational moment of becoming heroes surrounds them.
Bonus: U19 European Champions
To prove the dominance this country has had in the last year, the U19 team took Europe for the 10th time in their history after defeating Portugal 2-1 in the final.
More impressive, none of the players made the list for either U17 and U19 squads.
England’s football control is real. And they’re only two wins away from achieving ultimate footballing glory.
