Sign of Intent

In recent years Ajax have developed a reputation as a “selling club”. Ajax Boasts one of the best academies in world football. The Amsterdam Arena has become something of a supermarket for Europe’s elite clubs.

Despite a rich history and steady flow of trophies, the Dutch Eredivisie is a competition that many of Ajax’s stars outgrow and look abroad for new challenges to further their career. The signing of an established international and Premier League proven player shows that the club can still attract top talents.

The constant loss of star players has left the Dutch side with a very youthful team. This has severely hindered their ability to compete in Europe. In 2017, Ajax reached the Europa League final, but against a very experienced Manchester United side, they were simply outclassed.

With the addition of the likes of Tadic and more experienced players who can add experience to the talented but inexperienced youngsters at Ajax, the club can possibly challenge in Europes Elite competitions on a more regular basis.

Tadic’s Inconsistency

Despite being a star for the Serbian national side, Dusan Tadic has struggled for form at Southampton in recent years. His form from the early years at Southampton stalled and as the club stagnated in the lower midtable of the Premier League, he found consistent performances difficult amongst a backdrop of constant managerial and player exits.

Southampton announced earlier in the week that they had signed Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong and many consider him to be the Serb’s replacement.
