Business is beginning to pick up on Wearside. After completing their first signing last week in defender Alim Ozturk, Jack Ross and Sunderland welcomed two new signings today. More new players are expected in the coming weeks as Ross rebuilds the Black Cats squad ahead of their League One campaign. Several players are also expected to be moved on sooner rather than later.

Two Sign
Scottish International goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin has signed a two-year contract after having a medical on Wearside. The former Hearts stopper, out of contract this summer turned down other clubs to sign for Sunderland. McLaughlin made 36 appearances last season.
Ross said: “Jon was in Scotland last season, but he has spent the rest of his career in England and played in successful teams in this division. He’s a safe pair of hands.”
Midfielder/striker Chris Maguire also completed a medical and signed a two-year deal. Mcguire arrives from Bury having joined them from Oxford United last summer. He was in and out of the team last season but his time at Oxford was more successful. He scored 17 league goals during the 2016-17 season in League One.
Jack Ross had this to say about his new signing, “Chris was desperate to come here, and he will tell you this is the biggest club he’s played for. He’s got a bit about him and as soon as he saw the stadium he said ‘I’ll have a bit of this’.”
Two on their way
Paddy McNair is expected to leave for Middlesbrough soon after the two clubs agreed a fee believed to be £5 million. The deal looked off at the end of last week with Boro accusing Sunderland of still offering the player to other clubs even after a fee had been agreed. This was untrue according to owner Stewart Donald and over the weekend the deal was back on.
Jack Rodwell could finally be about to leave Sunderland. The club are hopeful he will be off the wage bill within the next week. Clubs in the MLS and Greek League are reportedly interested. The midfielder hardly played last season after advising he wanted to leave. He still collected £70,000 per week, reduced to £40,000 after relegation. As far as the club and supporters are concerned the sooner he leaves the better it will be for all.
