Everton Sign Tyais Browning to New Contract; Sell Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo

Ronald Koeman

As deadline day approaches, Everton manager Ronald Koeman has continued the revamping of Everton by selling Darron Gibson and Bryan Oviedo. Both players were inherited when he took over from Roberto Martinez. Koeman also helped prepare for the future by extending the contract of Tyias Browning.

Browning Signs New Contract

Tyais Browning penned a two-and-a-half year contract and was promptly loaned to Preston North End. Preston North End are currently tenth in the Championship, where Aiden McGeady also plays.

Browning previously spent 2014 on loan with Wigan Athletic in the Championship. He made two appearances there while on a one-month loan. Last season, Browning began to crack the first team, but he suffered a knee injury. Hopefully this loan will help him move towards the first team next season.

Gibson and Oviedo sold to Sunderland

Since David Moyes took over at Sunderland, several Everton players have been signed. Today, that trend was continued with the signing of Gibson and Oviedo. They joined for a rumoured combined fee of £7.5 million.

Oviedo will replace Patrick van Aanholt, who was sold to Crystal Palace. The left-back joined Everton from FC Copenhagen in 2012. He made 68 appearances, scoring two goals. Koeman feels that Oviedo can be replaced by the players in the squad. Highly-rated left-back Antonee Robinson will now become a reserve player.

Darron Gibson joined Everton from Manchester United in 2012. He made 69 appearances, also scoring two goals. The midfielder was frequently injured, and has struggled to break into Koeman’s squad. He has only made one appearance this year, in the EFL Cup. Gibson has been surpassed by Tom Davies and new signing Morgan Schneiderlin.

Phil Jagielka to Stay at Everton

Koeman also announced that captain Phil Jagielka will not be leaving in January. He will fight for a place in the squad. While he won’t receive much playing time, his locker room presence will be very beneficial to the younger players. Most likely he will be sold in the summer, but not before he receives a proper send-off.
