Michigan vs. Purdue Betting Odds & Preview

The Big Ten Championship Game is set for Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022. It kicks off at 8 pm ET.  Michigan is the home team, although Purdue’s campus is only 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis.

Purdue has played at Lucas Oil Stadium in the past,  but Michigan crushed Iowa in the 2021 Big Ten Football Championship Game there just a season ago. Ultimately, that makes it a bit of a home game for both schools.

So far this season, Michigan has won by a college-football best average of 27.2 points per game. Purdue averages 28.2 points per game and gives up an average of 23.8.

Michigan has scored 39.83 per game and only given up 12.67. That makes the 16.5-point spread about right.

This is Michigan’s second straight trip to the Big Ten Championship Game where they’ve got a chance to get to the College Football Playoff and compete for a National Championship for the second straight time.

In contrast, this is Purdue’s first-ever Big Ten Championship Game. The last time they won the Big Ten was 23 years ago when Drew Brees was a Boilermaker and the Big Ten Championship Game structure was still more than a decade away from becoming a thing.

Regardless, the ‘we’ve never been here before and may never get a chance like this again’ attitude may pay dividends for Purdue. In the end, these are all good reasons why both Michigan is heavily favored, and, however unlikely, a win for Purdue, or at least the chance to keep it close, is not completely out of the realm of possibilities.
