NBA Props, Odds, Picks | Monday, Feb. 27
Paolo Banchero Under 19.5 Points
Banchero is struggling in the efficiency and volume departments. He’s shooting 35.3% on 15.3 attempts across his last 10 games. His struggles extend to beyond the arc, where he’s 1 for his last 30 – that’s not a typo.
It’s not uncommon for first-year players to hit the proverbial rookie wall. Banchero, 54 games into his NBA career, has played more and at a much higher level than at any time in his life. Thus, it’s no surprise that he’s mired in a rough stretch. Look for the Magic to continue distributing shot attempts relatively evenly tonight, making things difficult for Banchero to hit the 20-point marker.
LaMelo Ball Over 17.5 Assists + Rebounds
Ball leads the Hornets with a 29.7% usage rate, so he’s going to have the rock in his hands early and often. He’s averaging 17.5 rebounds-plus-assists on the dot over the last 10 games. But that includes hitting the Over in each of his last six, a stretch in which the Hornets are 4-2.
They’re actually winners of four straight and favored to defeat the Pistons at home. Ball will play a substantial role in the Hornets’ attempt to extend that streak.
Jayson Tatum Over 13.5 Assists + Rebounds
Jaylen Brown will sit tonight’s contest, leaving his 31.6% usage rate to be redistributed across the roster. Tatum will add some of the extra volume onto his already staggering 32.9% usage number. Instead of looking at his scoring total, we’re taking aim at his secondary stats.
Opponents have to work particularly hard to put up big scoring numbers against the Knicks, who operate at a slow pace, feature a top 10 scoring defense, and force teams into inefficient shooting nights. However, given the extra usage, and Tatum’s sheer talent, we’re comfortable betting on him putting his stamp on the game with an all-around effort.
Jayson Tatum Under 3.5 Threes
Even considering the extra volume Tatum stands to assume in the wake of Brown’s absence, we’re sticking with the Under on three-pointers made.
The Knicks do a good job of defending the three-point line, and hitting four threes is a tough task, even for a player of Tatum’s caliber. He’s only hit the Over in three of his last 10. It’s not unreasonable to expect a few more shot attempts from Tatum tonight, but look for the entire roster to step up to fill Brown’s shoes.
