Boston Celtics superstar and NBA champion Jaylen Brown launched his own signature sportswear and shoe brand. This endeavor took Brown off the market from other brands that were seeking to sign him themselves.

Celtics Superstar Goes from Court to Closet

Brown has unveiled his own custom, signature sportswear creation. The move officially closes the door on Brown signing with another high-profile brand. Nike, the biggest shoe brand in sports, had been engaged in a somewhat feud with Brown, which stemmed from the Olympics situation in which he was not considered for Team USA.

Now, Nike, Adidas, Under Armor, and others will contend with Brown’s line, 741, in the shoe and apparel game. He lifted the veil on the brand by posting ‘The Black Moon,‘ the brand’s new sneakers, on Instagram today.

“741 is a next generation performance brand with a clear mission: To empower athletes and provide consumers with quality, stylish designs that elevate performance on and off the field.” the brand stated in a press release.

Brown launched 741 via the brand’s website and on social media. It seems he also showed the door to other major shoe companies (reportedly over $50 million in endorsement deals) so he could embark on his own creative journey. Now, Brown stands alone with complete control of his brand.

Brown Speaks on His Shoe Brand

Drawing inspiration from Kobe Bryant‘s dream of launching his own signature sneaker line, Brown used what he learned from Bryant to bring 741 to life. Tragically, Bryant never achieved his sneaker brand dream. Brown referenced what Kobe’s journey taught him in his own journey.

“Kobe’s journey taught me about being fearless and pushing sports, along with society, to new heights. That’s the mindset I’m bringing to 741,” he said.

As for 741 and everything it stands for, Brown spoke about the future of athletes to come.

“The understanding of ownership and value is what’s important for the next generation of athletes,” Brown said. “It’s time to think different and be different… create new ideas. It’s time to create more value for everyone involved, from athletes to consumers to employees and the communities that support them.”

He also unpacked the meaning behind the numbers that make up his brand’s name.

“The name “741” itself comes with a deep personal connection,” Brown stating that the numbers 7, 4, and 1 have appeared frequently in his life and represent spiritual awakening, hard work, and new beginnings. “741 is more than just a sneaker brand—it’s a statement about independence, creativity, and ownership.” he said.

A Perfect Segue into A New Season

With his new brand out in the open, Brown and his Celtics teammates, co-led by Jayson Tatum, gear up to defend their NBA Championship. Brown has all the motivation in the world this season, considering how the Olympics went down for him—or didn’t. Tatum has also spoken about his ambitions this season, coming off a gold medal victory in Paris earlier this summer.

Brown will showcase his new sneakers this season, and the Celtics will look to showcase their own dominance in repeat-like fashion.
