The No. 4 seed Kansas Jayhawks used a generous whistle or two on Thursday night to escape an upset bid by the 13-seed Samford Bulldogs, winning by a score of 93-89. The No. 5 seed Gonzaga Bulldogs capitalized on open jumpers all night long against the overmatched 12-seeded McNeese Cowboys, cruising to a 86-65 victory.
As a result, we have a tremendous matchup on Saturday afternoon at 3:15 pm EST when the Jayhawks and Bulldogs meet to see who will advance to the Sweet Sixteen in the Midwest Region.

Gonzaga had no trouble dismantling a McNeese defense that was in shambles in transition. Kansas should fare better in that area, but the Jayhawks stumbled to a victory, allowing 89 points to a Samford team that shot just 41% from the field.

Kansas escaped disaster in Round 1, but the task gets MUCH tougher when it faces the Zags in the round of 32. Gonzaga’s guards shot the ball well on Thursday, and the Jayhawks will be in big trouble if those shots are falling again. Without McCullar, Kansas simply doesn’t have the offensive firepower to make up for its lacking defense.
Gonzaga seems to be peaking offensively at the right time. Dickinson may own the boards, but it’ll be the Bulldogs who find more success in transition, create more turnovers, and make some key buckets down the stretch. The Zags should be moving on to the Sweet 16.

I bet this line at (+105) before this was published, but unfortunately, the line swung all the way below the plus-money line. I like Gonzaga to win outright, and I lean toward the Over here, but the best bet has to lie with a rebound prop once again.
The one area that Gonzaga struggled with on Thursday was keeping the Cowboys off the offensive glass. McNeese racked up 14 offensive rebounds. Hunter Dickinson will play big minutes for Kansas’ limited roster once again, and he corralled 20 rebounds in Round 1 en route to an easy winner for Thursday’s Best Bet.
I like making this part of a same-game parlay, as well, as there should be plenty of possessions back and forth to rack up counting stats for both teams.
