Let’s get into it here.
Duquesne vs. BYU Betting Preview
All below lines are via FanDuel Sportsbook, unless otherwise noted.
- Spread: Duquesne +9 (-108) • BYU -9 (-112)
- Moneyline: Duquesne (+330) • BYU (-425)
- Total: Over 142.5 (-110) • Under 142.5 (-110)
This matchup is a classic case of one team needing to keep things at a snail’s pace and low scoring, while the other team will want to play fast and furious to put the opponent at a major disadvantage. Duquesne excels in lower-scoring games, but BYU plays at a fast pace, and if they start putting enough points on the board, the Dukes may not be able to stand a chance in this fight.

Looking at Duquesne, a team that started 0-5 in conference play and was barely predicted to make noise in the Atlantic 10 tournament, let alone win the whole thing like they ended up doing, you wouldn’t think that they’re a contender to upset a solid shooting team like BYU, who have shot a three-pointer on 51% of their total shots this season.
However, the Dukes are a great story. Since that 0-5 start, they’ve only lost three times, and while BYU is a sizable step up in competition from what they’ve faced this season, they could feasibly shut them down and upset with a great defensive performance.
A team that lives (and dies) by the three-point shot can always have a bad shooting night, and with the Cougars heading to a neutral site venue, they could definitely be a bit out of sorts. I’m a big fan of fading these large spreads, so give me any chance I can get at picking another upset here for Duquesne.
