NBA Trade Rumors: Andre Drummond Heading to the New York Knicks

The biggest trade commodity seems to be two-time NBA All-Star Andre Drummond. There have been many trade rumors involving Drummond and teams, including the New York Knicks. This was reported by Shams Charania, NBA Insider for The Athletic and Stadium.

NBA Trade Rumors: Andre Drummond Could Head to the New York Knicks

NBA Trade Rumors: New York Knicks

The New York Knicks are the third-worst team in the NBA. Their record is 10-29 in the Eastern Conference and desperately need scoring. According to NBA Stats, they are 28th in team scoring. Drummond would be a welcome addition to the New York Knicks organization as he scores 17.8 points per game. They will also benefit from Drummond’s rebounds, as he leads the league with 16.2 rebounds per game.

While this may not be enough for the New York Knicks to make the playoffs, it is still a good first step if the New York Knicks somehow get Drummond. He would most likely be the New York Knicks franchise player, while younger players like RJ Barrett get used to the NBA game.

There are also some ideas of what players the Detroit Pistons want from the New York Knicks.

“I gather the Pistons could have interest in Knicks guard Frank Frank Ntilikina. The type of young talent team is looking to gain cheaply and hope more is shown as he matures. Only 21,” said Vince Ellis.

There are other teams interested in Drummond. However, none of them seem as interested as the New York Knicks.

NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics

According to Justin Trombino of FanSided, the Boston Celtics are interested in the services of Drummond. A reason Boston could be interested in Drummond is his ability to play both sides of the ball. He is a more offensive-minded player but gets most of his rebounds on the defensive glass.

More importantly, he could be used to defend Joel Embiid, Domantas Sabonis, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. This could be like what Marc Gasol did for the Toronto Raptors, who guarded both Embiid and Antetokounmpo in their NBA Championship run.

However, the costs of getting Drummond are quite high as Detroit will want a lot of good players from the Boston Celtics organization like Jayson Tatum and Gordon Hayward.

NBA Trade Rumors: Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks may be the one team that does not make sense, compared to the other teams linked. According to Julian Edlow of SB Nation, the Mavericks will have to make some sacrifices. This most consequentially would be spacing. Drummond would kill any spacing and Luka Doncic is a type of player that needs shooters around them. They would also probably need to depart with Dwight Powell. Trading an asset like Powell would be the biggest obstacle not just for the Dallas Mavericks, but also for the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks.

The biggest problem for the Detroit Pistons is Drummond’s contract. According to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free press, the Detroit Pistons are looking for at least one asset from another NBA team. The problem is he has a $28.7 million player option for next year, which he plans to decline. If he declines, he enters free agency meaning he may only be with an NBA team until the end of the regular season or playoffs.

This would also mean the Detroit Pistons are in rebuild mode. With Blake Griffin and his injury woes continuing, this, most likely, is the end of the Drummond and Griffin era. They will likely start rebuilding again and hope some of their young players will step up.

Although Drummond is the most popular player in the trading block, there are also other players in the trading block.

Dewayne Dedmon – Sacramento Kings

Dewayne Dedmon has made it known late last month he wants to get traded.

“I would like to be traded,” he said. “I haven’t been playing, so I would like to go somewhere where my talents are appreciated,” said Tim Daniels of Bleacher Report.

Dedmon went on to say, “I appreciate [the Kings’ investment in me]. I definitely appreciate it, but I want to be somewhere where I get to play. That’s my biggest thing. I’m trying to play and I’ve been told I’m no longer in the rotation here, so there’s really nothing to wait on.”

This resulted in Dedmon getting fined $50,000 according to a USA Today article.

By December 30th, Dedmon has only played 13.6 minutes per game for the Sacramento Kings. The situation does not look much better now, and trade seems to be more of a when than an if.

NBA Trade Rumors – Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks are considered a favorite for Dedmon. He averaged 10.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game with a 49.2 shooting percentage in 64 games. The Atlanta Hawks will need Dedmon’s rebounding skills as they rank 27th in team rebounding as they rank 27th in NBA Stats.

The main problem for Dedmon is that he will most likely not get starting minutes with the Atlanta Hawks. This is because of John Collins, who has 17.7 points per game and 10.1 assists per game and has started the last few games at center. He may get some good minutes with the team as he already knows most of the players and staff. However, according to many sources like Sam Amick of SB Nation, the asking price from the Sacramento Kings is too high.

Marcus Morris – New York Knicks

There is not much to read on the Marcus Morris trade rumors. Although he has been contacted by three NBA teams, the New York Knicks are not interested in trading him. He was known for guarding LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2018 NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

However, according to James Herbert of CBS Sports, Morris wants to stay with the New York Knicks. Furthermore, the New York Knicks do not want to trade Morris.

“I love our team. I love our future,” Morris said.

Morris continued saying, “I just want to be a part of helping our young guys grow and grow out to be the great players they’re gonna be…That was the reason why I made the decision to come here, going back on the decisions I made, along with a lot of other things, but I’m here. I enjoy this organization. I enjoy the players they got here and I want to be here long-term.”

He is averaging 19.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 46.9 percent from deep. Most likely, Morris will continue as a New York Knick, but the two Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Philadelphia 76ers will continue to keep tabs on Morris.

NBA Trade Rumors

These are just some of the latest trade rumors happening across the NBA. However, Drummond trade rumors are the most significant right now. With his points and rebounding he can make a contending NBA team into a championship NBA team.

Other trade rumors include Dewayne Dedmon of the Sacramento Kings and Marcus Morris of the New York Knicks. While Morris seems unlikely, anything can happen when the NBA trade deadline approaches in February.
